While we were away having a beach holiday (see previous blog) we had a drain put in at the side of the house to catch excess water.
When we arrived home we discovered that as well as water, it had also caught these three little beauties!

Not sure how many days the skinks were trapped down there but I managed to rescue them all crocodile-hunter-style and are now safe and free.
Yes, it’s a CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!
(I have now installed a mesh covering to avoid future tragedies.)
And speaking of wildlife. The spiders in our front yard garden have been working overtime. It’s now a high density residential bug-catching area!

But apart from lizards and spiders, of course this week was all about sharing a lovely Christmas time with family!

Merry Christmas to any readers out there. Thanks for listening to me rabbiting on.
One blog to go for the year!
Cheers

I just love your high density Bug Catching garden. We were fortunate that we had an Orb Spider make a most glorious web in our back garden some years ago, it was HUGE and spanned unimaginable distances, so we were very careful to not disturb it. It was there for months and months – we’d cut edges or prune but well away from it. Alas, one very windy night it got torn apart, I guess from the branches on which it was attached being so viciously blown in different directions.
We never saw our lovely Orb again!

Thanks for your comment. We had a very similar experience with an Orb Spider. They make fantastic webs! I used to love watching the careful construction. I think most of the ones we have at the front garden now are called Tent Spiders. There’s a mess of webs with incredible dome shapes inside. They’re all fighting for their bit of air spare. Amazing creatures. Cheers.
