Jake and Anna’s dad loves his garden. So do the scrub-turkeys. Will they ever be able to share nicely?
REVIEWS:
You Turkeys! is a funny addition to the Mates series, a full colour illustrated chapter book for lower primary aged readers. Whilst the story is high in humour, and complemented by quirky illustrations, it also gives a gentle message about conservation and wildlife. (Aussie Reviews)
Apart from the great characters and humour in You Turkeys!, I loved the resolution to this story and I’m sure that young readers will too. (Kids’ Book Capers)

Dear Mr. Bauer,
I wonder how you came to the name Ismail in your trilogy story and why you described him negatively ? The name isn’t known in the Anglo-Sachsen culture.
I would like to know the reason why you use this name as a main figure in your story?
sorry, for the mistakes bevor!!

As it explains in the novel, because of a series of unusual circumstances, Ishmael’s parents name him Ishmael after the main character and narrator of Herman Melville’s famous book Moby Dick. If you scroll way back to BLOG 8 you can read how that all came about. Cheers.

Hello,, I’m trying to source a copy of this book for my 3-year-old neighbour, an Aboriginal boy who is terrified of our local scrub turkey. (He’s having scrub turkey-themed nightmares.) Is it still in print? BTW, Dyan Blacklock gave me a copy of “Don’t Call Me Ishmael” when it was first published, and I liked it very much. Kind regards, Michelle

Hi Michelle
I think it’s out of print now as are all the Mates series. There might be still copies available in some bookshops or online. If you track down a copy I hope it works for the 3 yr old. Glad you liked the first Ishmael. I’m very proud of that trilogy.
Cheers
Michael
