REVIEWS for Eric Vale Epic Fail:

Eric Vale Epic Fail is epically funny and has major child appeal, but with a few strong messages woven in for good measure. MGB has crafted a story about resilience, acceptance and inclusivity, with not a trace of the dreaded schoolyard ‘b’ word. The characters are so well portrayed that they  could each have a novel of their own. (Children’s Books Daily – Megan Daley) See more …

Eric Vale Epic Fail is the hilarious first installment in a new series from Michael Gerard Bauer. The text is well supported by the grey scale illustrations by Bauer’s talented son Joe with a mix of comic-style cells, single illustrations and humorous embellishments. Laugh out loud funny, but with nice messages about difference, and friendship, and even bullying, this is another sure-fire hit from one of Australia’s best. (Aussie Reviews – Sally Murphy) See more …

Nicknames and their effects is the theme of this very funny story from Bauer, a genius at getting down the nitty gritty of school experiences. Laugh out loud, the situations in the school are enormously funny, and the range of children within the class engrossing. The attempts by Eric and his friend Chewy to rid him of his hated nickname will intrigue readers from start to finish, and augmented by some additional funny drawings around the margins of the pages, readers will be delighted to see that this is the first of a series.  (ReadPlus – Fran Knight) See more …

Eric Vale is the cutest, most flawed, most perfect and likeable character I’ve met in a long time. Michael Gerard Bauer has penned a fast-paced, deftly-woven, faultless (unlike Eric), super-fun tale that will have young readers absolutely hooked. Totally awesome, really excellent wordage, adages and idioms make me wonder if Mr Bauer is indeed still in the fifth grade – that’s how perfectly relatable the story is for kids.

I laughed out constantly with this book. The humour is not only divinely witty and very visual – its style has enormous crossover appeal. Riddled with truly funny and very clever illustrations by Bauer’s own son, Joe, the book is also ideal for reluctant readers. (Kid’s Book Review – Tania McCartney) See more

REVIEWS for Eric Vale Super Male:

This is another fabulously funny and thoroughly engaging schooltime romp by the talented Bauer. Coupled with truly sensational line drawings by the author’s own son Joe, this is a series your boys – and girls – will devour at a supersonic rate. Also great for repeat reads. (Kid’s Book Review – Tania McCartney) See more …

This is an entertaining story for primary aged children and there is much for them to relate to. The ‘Danger’ Dale comic strip woven throughout is fabulous too and adds to the many laugh-aloud moments throughout. It is an easy read with fun illustrations on every page making it accessible to beginning readers. (Buzz Words)See more …

REVIEWS for Eric Vale Off the Rails:

I already have a queue of year 5 boys waiting at my door to be the first one to read the latest Eric Vale adventure. Such is the appeal of this series beginning with Epic Fail and followed by Super Male. (ReadPlus – Sue Keane)See more …

These highly entertaining novels will, no doubt grow in popularity with middle to upper primary aged readers. Each story is told by Eric himself in the first person, past tense, with Joe Bauer’s hilarious illustrations matching the text flawlessly. (Magpies – Russ Merrin)

      Hi Martinez Family!
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to send that lovely feedback. My son Joe (who does all the illustrations) and I are so glad that you have enjoyed the first two Eric Vale books. I hope you like Off the Rails just as much when you get a copy. It’s amazing to think of our books being read so far away in Mexico.
My best wishes to you all.
      Cheers
      Michael

Hi Tammy. That’s great to hear. There is a third book Eric Vale Off the Rails and then there are 3 separate spin off books featuring the action hero that Eric himself makes up – Secret Agent Derek ‘Danger’ Dale. Hope he likes them. Say Hi to your son from me. Cheers Michael
